Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 15, 2026
1. Introduction
FastCapture ("we", "our", or "the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that lets you record your screen and take screenshots. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how our software works.
This Privacy Policy describes what information we access, how we use it, and what choices you have. By installing or using FastCapture, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
FastCapture is designed with a privacy-first approach. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. All recordings, screenshots, and media files are processed entirely within your browser and are never uploaded to our servers or any third-party service.
We do not use cookies, analytics tools, tracking pixels, or any form of telemetry. We have no server infrastructure that receives data from the Extension. We do not know who installs or uses FastCapture.
3. Local Storage
FastCapture uses Chrome's built-in local storage API (chrome.storage.local) to save your preferences on your device. This includes:
- Your chosen language, recording format (WebM/MP4), and quality settings
- Screenshot format preference (PNG/JPG/PDF) and capture mode
- UI preferences such as webcam position, countdown timer, and audio settings
This data is stored locally on your device only. It is never transmitted, synchronized, or backed up to any external server. You can clear this data at any time by removing the extension or clearing browser data.
4. Browser Permissions
FastCapture requires certain Chrome permissions to function. Each permission is used solely for its stated purpose:
- tabCapture / desktopCapture — Required to capture your screen, tab, or window for recording and screenshots.
- activeTab / tabs — Required to access the current tab for visible-area screenshots and to inject the region-selection overlay.
- downloads — Required to save recordings and screenshots to your Downloads folder.
- storage — Required to save your preferences locally (see Section 3).
- scripting — Required for full-page screenshot scrolling and the region-selection overlay.
- offscreen — Required to process media (video encoding, image stitching) in a background document.
These permissions are never used to monitor your browsing, read your personal data, or track your activity. They are the minimum set required for the Extension to work.
5. Gmail Integration (Optional)
FastCapture offers an optional feature that lets you share captures via Gmail. This feature uses Google's OAuth 2.0 authentication and the Gmail API with the scope "gmail.compose". When you choose to use this feature, you authorize FastCapture to create a draft email with your capture attached.
We do not read, store, or access your emails, contacts, or any other Gmail data. The OAuth token is stored locally in your browser by Chrome's identity API and is never sent to our servers. You can revoke this access at any time from your Google Account security settings.
FastCapture's use of Google APIs complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
6. Analytics and Tracking
FastCapture does not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other analytics or tracking service. We do not collect usage statistics, crash reports, or diagnostic data. We have no mechanism to track how you use the Extension.
7. Third-Party Services
FastCapture interacts with the following third-party services:
- Chrome Web Store — The Extension is distributed through the Chrome Web Store, which is operated by Google. Google may collect data related to your installation and usage of extensions according to their own privacy policy.
- Google OAuth / Gmail API — If you use the optional email sharing feature, FastCapture interacts with Google's OAuth and Gmail API as described in Section 5. This interaction is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Apart from the above, FastCapture does not communicate with any external server, API, or service.
8. Data Security
Since all data processing occurs locally in your browser, your recordings and screenshots are never exposed to network transmission risks. Your captures remain on your device unless you explicitly choose to share or upload them through other means.
We recommend keeping your browser and operating system up to date to benefit from the latest security patches.
9. Children's Privacy
FastCapture does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). Since we do not collect personal data, no special provisions for children are necessary. However, children should use the Extension under parental supervision.
10. European Users (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Because FastCapture does not collect or process personal data, there is no personal data for us to provide, correct, delete, or port. We do not act as a data controller or data processor with respect to your use of the Extension.
If you use the contact form on our website, we process your name, email, and message for the sole purpose of responding to your inquiry. This data is processed on the basis of legitimate interest and is not stored beyond what is necessary to respond.
11. California Users (CCPA)
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, request its deletion, and opt out of its sale. FastCapture does not collect, sell, or share any personal information as defined by the CCPA.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
