The Story Behind FastCapture

It started with a simple need. A few years ago, I was working as a developer in France, jumping between video calls, bug reports, and documentation. Every day I needed to capture my screen - a quick recording to show a colleague how to reproduce a bug, a screenshot of a layout to send to a client, a full-page capture for an audit report. Basic stuff.

But somehow, none of the existing tools got it right. Some required a monthly subscription just to remove a watermark. Others uploaded my captures to their servers before I could even download them. A few were genuinely good but locked essential features behind a paywall - want MP4 instead of WebM? Pay up. Want to capture a full scrolling page? Upgrade to Pro.

I kept switching between three or four different extensions, each one covering a gap the others left open. One for video, one for screenshots, one for full-page captures. My browser toolbar looked like a Christmas tree, and I still could not do everything I needed without friction.

So I decided to build my own. Not a startup, not a SaaS product with growth metrics - just a tool that does what it should. Record a screen, take a screenshot, capture a full page, pick a region, grab all open tabs. Export in whatever format you need. No cloud upload, no tracking. Everything happens in your browser, on your machine. Your data stays yours.

That is FastCapture. I built it for myself first, then realized other people had the exact same frustrations. The extension grew organically - no marketing budget, no ads, just word of mouth from people who were tired of the same compromises I was.

Today, FastCapture supports screen recording with webcam overlay, system audio capture, visible and full-page screenshots, region selection, multi-tab capture, and export to WebM, MP4, GIF, PNG, JPG, and PDF. It works on Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Opera, and is available on both the Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons.

I keep working on it because I use it every day. When something annoys me, I fix it. When I need a new feature, I build it. That is the advantage of being both the developer and the user - there is no distance between feedback and action.
